We went on and elephant trek. Our elephant was called Thom Wan and he was quite character. We had a basket of bananas and sugar cane (the fuel) which he periodically flung his trunk up for us to feed him. That was however not enough for an elephant and every 100 metres or so he would stop and grab handfulls of grass or strip a bamboo branch to supplement his diet.
It seemd the rider was not able to stop Thom from doing this without quite a lot of encouragement from his stick. In consequence our one hour ride ended up taking nearer one and a half hours.
I'm sure Thom Wan's approach to his work could benefit us all. However hard he was being driven to meet his deadline he still made sure he had time to rest for his personal needs to be met. Perhaps we don't have the personal strength of an elephant in this respect but it is worth trying to take time for ourselves I am certain. Thom Wan certainly looked very content on it.....
